All about books…

All about books…
It is Book Week!
This week we’ve been working on characters from ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers. Nile Class has focussed on the character of ‘Boy’. Nile was teamed up with Maple Class who chose two divers as their characters. At first, we questioned each other about the characters and then we wrote our own adventures, using our three selected characters.
This week KS2 has been encouraged to complete the Spring Book Bingo Challenge.  Like others in my class, I have been completing Book Bingo sheets at home. As I’m a guest blogger, I would like to share recommendations of books for the challenge that I have read (or reread) in the last two weeks.
  • I recommend ‘Planetarium’ (Winner of the Royal Society Young Book Prize), especially the page with our space address!
  • Another brilliant book is ‘If… a mind-bending new way of looking at big ideas and numbers’ by David J. Smith, because it really makes you think! The book has lots of cool facts like these:
    • Did you know that if all the water on Earth was represented by 100 glasses, only one of the glasses would represent fresh water available to us?
    • If all the wealth of the World was represented by a pile of 100 coins, the poorest 50% would share just one coin?
  • Furthermore, if you’re like me and you enjoy general knowledge then, ‘The Curious Book of Lists’ is a fun read.
  • Mrs Bullen-Smith suggested we read a graphic book and my favourite is, ‘The Comic Strip Odyssey’, a funny retelling of a Greek myth.

As it is Book Week, I have included pictures of some of the Book Bingo books that I’ve read so far that I hope other Year 4s might also enjoy reading.

Happy Book Week!

Drama with Maple:

Great focus and sportsmanship at the recent multi-sports competition, too:

Notices

  • Swimming will continue each Tuesday until the end of term, Year 4 Forest school sessions have now finished.
  • We are already excited for our new Spring 2 topic Around the World in 80 Days. We will be launching it on the first week back and for this we would like the children to bring in an interesting object/book/postcard/picture from somewhere around the world: this could be something representing their culture, a trip they have been on, their local area etc.
  • We are going to be using nature magazines and papers for our topic so if you have any that you have finished with please could you bring them into school.
